Sven Gutjahr born in Worms, Germany lives and works in Berlin. Currently, he is studying as a masterclass student (Meisterschüler) under Thomas Arslan at Berlin University of the Arts. In the same year he was awarded with a grant by the German National Scholarship Foundation.
Sven works in the fields of photography, film and video art. Driven by critical perspectives on hegemonic norms his work is often body-based pursuing the subject as it moves through architecture and space while drawing attention to aspects of performativity and identity. Examining the strangeness of the human body in its physical presence as well as its entity as a social construct. His conceptual positions connect queer theory, pornography and psychoanalysis by involving digital, analog and oftentimes obsolete techniques of image creation. His work explores aesthetics of intimacy, control and excess.
Within collaboration projects he works with and for interdisciplinary artists like Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, Leila Hekmat, Bendik Giske, Calla Henkel & Max Pitegoff, Alexander Geist and many others. As a filmmaker he is part of the They Feed Off Buildings collective.
